What is your goal on the 2nd? How much do you hope that they will discount? I doubt it will be $1,000 like in a short sale.
Also, while I have not bought any notes, I hear it's not the easiest thing to do when a large super-company like Countrywide is involved. They don't like to pry out a single note and sell it onesy twosy.
Do you have any indication that they would be willing to sell the note?
