I was in Shasta in January and picked up one of the homes for sale booklets in Redding. We kind of like the area. We have lived in the SF Bay area for over 25 years and know the "recreational" areas that are driveable fairly well. I have tracked Redding prices since 2005 and find that they have dropped from the 2005/2006 timeframe, but nothing like around here. But then they did not go up like they did here either, and I think the rate of increase and rate of decline are related.
Anyway, with the CA tenant/landlord laws the way they are, I still would not consider CA. At least rent control is out unless the legislature reinstates it.
