Hm...is that a cultural difference? (I'm not American originally), but I don't see anything wrong to ask my bank about that? In fact, I did just that a couple of months ago. I'm in CA, so I don't know if that makes a difference. I was told that it's per account and also that married people would count for 100k each. If I have a business account with a sole wonership etc , then it would be 100k for the business and 100k for me personally for that account.
