In most cases I have just taken the storm doors off but there is a good chance that the old mobile home door will leak. Several years ago I began replacing the exterior mobile home doors with solid, 6 panel steel (for stick built) exterior doors. I buy these from a surplus store for about $85 with casing.

It takes a couple of hours to retrofit the house and door but has proven to be well worth the expense and effort. These doors hold up to even the worst tenants. They have not leaked and provide a more secure home. Let's face it, how hard is it really to break into or through a mobile home door?

However if I were to keep the storm door and mobile home door and was in a bad wind location I might consider creating some sort of bumper off the railing. We build at least a 4'x4' platfrom with wide steps to each home. The door should swing into a railing and if bumper of some kind could be created it might keep the door from being blown open and past the hyper-extension point (for lack of better wording) that tends to rip the door closure mechanism and restraining chains out of the wood. This idea is off the cuff and just for thought as I have not tried this or even considered it until reading your post.

Tony
