This may seem like an odd question, and quite frankly I wasn't sure which category to put this. Here it goes: I just read on another forum about someone who has been able to obtain names and the new addresses of home buyers right BEFORE they move in to their new home. Does this make sense?
Is this legal? I understand he is doing list brokering and obtaining the names of home buyers before they move in to their new address and offering these names and addresses to local businesses. If someone, perhaps even the Realtor, are providing this information to someone for profit, is this ethical? Nothing surprises me anymore, I was just wondering what people here think about this. This person could also be throwing out a bunch of baloney, I'm not sure. I appreciate your replies! Doc |

Doc,
Welcome wagon and others will purchase the details of a new home buyer. The paperwork for a home purchase is public record. I am not sure where you are going with your question otherwise.

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply. I know all of this is public record and gets recorded and all...after the fact. I'm not sure how anyone can obtain this information before someone actually moves in to their home. When I bought my home it wasn't official until July 1994, prior to that, between May and July, we were working the details and finalizing everything. How can anyone actually say they can get the address of new home buyers before they actually move in to the home? Things never move that fast. Before I reply to this individual about this claim, I thought I would check it out here first. All the best, Doc |

I do not get why you want to connect when a buyer buys a property with when someone moves into the property. The purchase details are public record. Just because I know who the buyer is does not mean I know they have moved in. If you buy a property and then start receiving mail check the details. Assuming there was something distinct about the name of the buyer, you will see the same detail on the mail. The sender does not know who is living there, just who bought the place.
